A colossal 18,000 real ale lovers braved the summer rainstorms to visit Essex’s Chelmsford Beer Festival last month… and their reward will be to get another next February!

chemlsford_140812Following the huge success of the Admirals Park event, despite the foul weather, the Chelmsford and Mid-Essex CAMRA branch decided to repeat the event in midwinter.

What’s more, they will be testing the drinkers yet again… with the festival being held OUTDOORS once more!

Branch chairman Chris Pollard said: “It’s going to be in the fresh air – and it’s going to be big!

“It will be much, much bigger than previous festivals and it will be outdoors.”

The event is planned for the grounds of the town’s King Edward VI Grammar School, from Wednesday to Saturday, February 20-23.

The branch is hoping to match the huge summer ale list, which saw drinkers treated to more than 500 beers – with over 360 British ales, over 150 ciders and perries and more than 100 continental brews.
