Yorkshire’s Saltaire Brewery is now producing two million pints of real ale per year – just six years after it was set up!
The smashing of the barrier – which equates to almost 7,000BBL per year – was marked at a special event at the Shipley brewery on Wednesday (November 14).
The “Cask, Keg and Bottle” event was a double celebration – as it also saw the launch a trio of new beers into the trade and new branding by Saltaire.
The brewery rolled out a new permanent session ale and its first keg ale beer as it revealed that it has also begun bottling its fast-selling IPA Stateside cask beer.
Each of the new beers will feature the redesigned Saltaire Brewery branding, which is being rolled out across all pump clips and bottles.
The new permanent session ale, is the 3.9 per cent Saltaire Pride – a bitter made with crystal malt and Bramling Cross, Challenger and Cascade hops, that is designed to sit alongside its most popular beer, Saltaire Blonde.
Saltaire Gold is the new keg ale – brewed to a similar recipe as Saltaire Blonde, but tweaked to make it more suitable for keg packaging. It is described as having “has a deep gold colour and a toasty malt flavour, with spicy tones that come from the Saaz hop”.
The trio of launches was completed by Saltaire making its 6 per cent Stateside IPA – a deep gold ale made form a blend of American Cascade, Magnum, Summit and Galena hops and one of its fastest-selling cask beers – available in bottles.
Head brewer Tony Gartland said: “For some time, pubs have been asking us for a low ABV session ale to sit alongside Saltaire Blonde, so Pride is a response to that demand from landlords. We’re hopeful it will prove just as popular, in time, as Blonde.
“The keg beer, Saltaire Gold, is aimed at pubs and bars that can’t accommodate cask ales, or don’t have sufficient rate of sale to justify stocking a cask beer. It’s our first kegged beer and it adds a new dimension to our range.”
The new branding – developed using feedback from members of the brewery’s own Beer Club – retains the iconic Salt’s Mill image, but in a distinctive new style.
