But you may need one or two before you try working it out…
Boffins have cracked the formula to perfect pint – by adding friends, snacks, mood and even room temperature to your favourite beer.
Researchers have discovered that ultimate enjoyment of a pint, depends as much on factors including surroundings, music volume, and days remaining until more work, as it does on the quality of the beer itself.
And now, after questioning 1,000 drinkers nationwide, the scientists have unveiled the following mathematical equation to unlock drinker’s heaven: E = – (0.62T2 + 39.2W2 + 62.4P2) + (21.8T + 184.4W + 395.4P + 94.5M – 90.25V) + 50(S + F + 6.4).
The higher the figure for ‘E’, the greater the drinker’s enjoyment will be, say the scientists.
And they say they have found the nations’ favourite pint-drinking scenario: a beer drunk when they have more than two days free before work, enjoyed in the company of three or four good-spirited friends, in a room which is 17.6deg C, with quiet music in the background and good access to snacks. The research was commissioned by pub chain Taylor Walker – a division of Spirit Group – and carried out by Brighton-based Mindlab.
And for those brave enough to have a go, here’s the formula for working out how to achieve a perfect pint:
E = – (0.62T2 + 39.2W2 + 62.4P2) + (21.8T + 184.4W + 395.4P + 94.5M – 90.25V) + 50(S + F + 6.4).
The initials in the equation stand for the following:
E = Factor describing overall enjoyment
T = The ambient temperature in degrees Celsius
W = The number of days until you are required back at work
P = The number of people with whom you are drinking
M = Related to your mood whilst drinking the pint
V = Related to the volume of the music being played
S and F are related to the availability of snacks and food.
