Beer sommelier Jane Peyton is going back in time tomorrow (Tuesday November 6)… to brew a medieval beer on the BBC!
The Beer Academy sommelier is one of a pair of top women beer stars who feature on BBC2’s Great British Food Revival programme.
And as part of the show Jane and her host, celebrity chef Angela Hartnett, will attempt to recreate a medieval style beer on camera.
On the show, Jane explains to Angela that historically, the majority of brewers in this country were in fact WOMEN, as she explains: “Ale was brewed in the home as part of domestic duties”.
And of the beer they brew, Jane (pictured right) explaines: “This was a very different brew to what we drink nowadays. In England, brewers didn’t start using hops until the Middle Ages and so our ale was flavoured with honey and heather.
“I’m always amazed by the enormous variety of aromas and flavours found in beer.”My mission as a Beer Sommelier is to introduce people to this incredible diversity and encourage them to explore the wonderful world of beer.”
Aside from being a tutor at the Beer Academy, Jane is the principal of a corporate events company that runs beer, cider, wine, and spirits tasting events.
She will be joined on the programme by the Beer Beauty blogger… award-winning female beer writer, TV presenter and journalist Marverine Cole, who helps hammer home the message that beer is beautiful!
Marverine says: “Beer is such an incredibly complex drink. There are thousands of delicious beers out there, many of which can compliment a wide range of foods.
“On the show, I try to persuade Angela about just that. Plus I manage to rope her into helping me with a party. You’ll just have to watch the show to see exactly what happens. I had a marvellous time filming it and Angela is fabulous fun!”
