John Willie Lees racks up three records in ‘great’ year

Historic Manchester brewer JW Lees has had another super year – posting increased turnover and profits despite the uncertain economic climate.
The Middleton-based brewer announced a turnover of £64.1m, up by 0.2 per cent on its previkous year. Pre-tax profits rose by 1.8 per cent to £5.7m and post-tax profits were up 9.9 per cent at £4.5m.
All three figures are records for the brewery, which was founded in 1828.
Managing director William Lees-Jones said: “We’ve had a great year but at the same time if we really worked at it, how much better could we be next year and the year after? The next chapter is about moving from being good to being great”.
