Nottingham’s Castle Rock Brewery has named its latest ale in memory of the bloodiest single day in British military history.
Yesterday saw the centenary of World War I’s Battle of the Somme.
To mark the dreadful day on July 1, 1916 – in which the British Army alone had over 57,000 casualties, nearly 20,000 of whom died – Castle Rock launched Baptism of Fire: The Somme.
The latest ale in the brewer’s Commemoration Collection is a 4.8 per center, described as “amber in colour with a infusion of ginger”, and Castle Rock will donate cash from the beer’s sale to the Royal British Legion and Amnesty International, during its three-month sales run.
