TrrreBOOM your tastebuds – with a fresh-hop ale!

York’s Treboom Brewery has produced a new ale, using fresh green hops rather than the usual kiln-dried ingredient.

First Draft was produced at the Shipton-by- Beningborough brewery, after former research scientist and brewer John Lewis travelled to Pridewood Farm in Herefordshire, to personally collect the hops.

Because of the short timeframe permitted between picking the hops and brewing the beer, First Draft had to be a limited edition of just 30 casks.

But it launched at the recent York Beer and Cider Festival and has now made an appearance in a number of city pubs.

John intends to make the brew an annual, seasonal favourite, in the style of Beaujolais Nouveau – with every brew having its own unique flavour dependent on the year’s hop crop!
