Beer-matching dinners are to be launched in Bristol, after the local Bishopston Supper Club joined forces with the Bristol Beer Factory.

The factory’s head brewer, Chris Kay, has been called in to co-host the weekend ale fe-a-st, on September 28-29.

The club was begun by Bristolian Danielle Coombs, who believes that food is a great way to communicate.

She serves up a five-to-seven course supper in her living room – with everything homemade, including the bread, and some produce even homegrown.

Normally her guests take their own drinks – but on the weekend, Chris Kay will be on hand with an array of ales form independent producers, to wash down the food as he talks about beer!

The evenings will begin with an aperitif of Deus, with vegetables in tempura batter.

Cantillon Kriek Lambic will accompany pork rillettes, beer bread and chutney. Then mussels cooked with wheat beer and chips will be accompanied by Bristol Beer Factory’s Hefe.

Next up is rabbit, braised in beer with prunes, mustard mash and greens, served with Orval and followed by a hop-infused vodka granita.

The cheeseboard consists of Montgomery Cheddar, Stichelton and Dorston matched with Southville Hop, Harvest Ale and Hefe respectively.

Imperial Stout, aged in a Glenlivet cask, will accompany the dessert of chocolate pot, honeycomb and espresso ice cream, before coffee or Lahloo tea and biscuits finish the feast.

Places are limited for the dinners. If you’re lucky enough to live within fork-range, you can book and get more information from Grape and Grind. Call 0117 924 8718 or email: info@grapeandgrind.co.uk
