New book charts rise of brewing institute

When a handful of young scientists got together in a disreputable part of London in 1886, to discuss their shared interest in the science behind brewing, the Institute of Brewing and Distilling was born.

Brewers_historyThe IBD went on to become the leading organisation of its type in the world, with over 4,000 members and it is celebrated in a new book by Ray Anderson, Brewers and Distillers by Profession, the illustrated history of the Institute of Brewing and Distilling.

Said Ray: “I have attempted to paint a fair ‘warts and all’ picture of the Institute over the years. The book tempers scholarship with humanity and humour, to provide insight into the personalities involved within the context of the times through which they lived”.
