East Sussex’s latest microbrewery is being launched – in the setting of a disused flint barn.
The 20BBL Long Man Brewery is being set up at Church Farm, Litlington, by farm owner Duncan Ellis and local ale supplier Steve Lees.
The venture has been helped by funding from the Wealden and Rother Rural Partnership. It will be powered by green energy from the farm’s newly-installed solar panels.
Production is beginning on three ales: a 3.8 per cent hoppy, golden ale called Long Blonde; a traditional 4 per cent Sussex Best Bitter; and Sussex Pride, a 4.5 per cent pale ale.
The ales are produced using malting barley grown on the farm and initially will supply outlets in Sussex.
Recycling will be a big feature of the brewery – and the spent grain will be returned to the farm and used as animal feed.
