Scrumpy pals take Surrey cider to GBBF

Surrey’s first-ever cider entry to CAMRA’s Great British Beer Festival has come from two friends and back-yard brewers from Guildford.
Martin Pollock, 37, and Pete O’Connor, 30, have been making cider in their back gardens for three years.
They noticed a gap in the market for cider from Surrey, set up as Pete’s Pollocks – and 6.5 per cent dry Sheepfold Growler was born, using Surrey apples
Accountant Martin said: “We used to go to festivals and there would be signs saying the ciders had come from loads of counties, but none from Surrey.
“We’re really proud of being the first Surrey supplier at the Great British Beer Festival.”
Increased production – the pair went from a few gallons to 130 litres last year – has brought with it a dearth of apples and the pair are now “scrumping” for ingredients… by leafleting homes, offering to take away their unwanted apples!
