A West Country brewery has launched its own North Devon Ale Trail to take lovers of its ales to the pubs that sell them!
And the Country Life Brewery, based at the Big Sheep tourist attraction at Abbotsham, has even created its own “trail ale”, Golden Piglet, especially for the launch.
The trail takes Country Life lovers around a staggering 50 pubs in the area, where they can get a special passport stamped.
Collecting 10 stamps wins them a bottle of cask-conditioned ale; after 20 stamps, you get a pack of three bottles, and moving on to 40 stamps brings a Country LifeT-shirt and a pack of six bottles of ales!
Golden Piglet comes trotting hot on the heels of the brewery’s multi-award-winning Golden Pig ale, which took last year’s National Silver Award.
Country Life is North Devon’s largest brewer, with a 15,000 pints per week capacity.
Before Golden Piglet was born it boasted four multi-award-winning ales among its regular stable of seven brews.
Originally based at the Pig On The Hill pub in Pusehill, Westward Ho!, the brewery moved to The Big Sheep in 2002, where visitors can tour the working brewery and its shop.
A state-of-the-art brewery and bottling plant was installed in 2005. For more information on the Ale Trail, visit the brewery’s website.
