British brewers are featuring highly on a new Worldwide Brewing Alliance website to encourage responsible consumption.
The new WBA site demonstrates how the global brewing industry is working to help reduce the harmful use of alcohol, and shows the shared global dedication to promoting responsible drinking and it provides detailed information about hundreds of brewer-supported responsibility initiatives.
Among those highlighted is the UK industry’s pledge on alcohol labelling.
The British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA) and other industry members have promised to ensure that over 80 per cent of products on the shelf will have labels with clear alcohol unit content by December 2013, together with NHS guidelines and a warning about drinking when pregnant.
The move will increase drinkers’ understanding of units and NHS guidelines, allowing them to better manage alcohol consumption.
BBPA chief executive Brigid Simmonds said: “Brewers in Britain and all over the world are always working to improve their local communities by supporting and sponsoring specific programmes to reduce excessive alcohol consumption.
“Most people enjoy beer responsibly, but to tackle irresponsible drinking, brewers are constantly developing new tools and initiatives many of which are featured on this website.”
