They love their ale in Norwich – and they’ll be out to prove it on Thursday (May 31) with the start of a 10-day celebration of beer! The city’s second City of Ale event kicks off a summer of celebrations that encompasses the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, the Euro championships and the Olympics – and some 45 pubs and 35 local breweries have signed up to the event, which runs through to June 10.
CAMRA chief executive Mike Benner will officially open the celebration and among the attractions will be a series of heritage events exploring the city’s pub and brewing history – which will include films, talks and walking tours. Visit the heritage link below for full details of the activities.
There will also be a heavyweight political debate on the future of pubs and brewing – chaired by BBC East’s David Whiteley in which Mr Benner will participate, along with Norwich North and South MPs, Chloe Smith and Simon Wright and Chesterfield Labour MP Toby Perkins.
The debate, at St Gregory’s Hall on Friday, June 1 is free and open to all.
Other attractions include an historic pub quiz, traditional pub games and an auction
Not to be forgotten, Norwich & Norfolk CAMRA has just unveiled the logo for its 35th Norwich Beer Festival, which takes place in St Andrew’s and Blackfriars Halls, from October 29 to November 3.
The dragon on a diamond logo celebrates the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
It was created by 44-year-old Anthony Miles from neighbouring Aylsham, who won a CAMRA contest to design it.
Completing an upbeat hat-trick for the city, brewer Adnams is set to open a new Cellar and Kitchen shop at in Unthank Road in the Golden Triangle – increasing Adnams’ Cellar and Kitchen outlets across East Anglia, to 12.
