The boss of Lincolnshire pub-brewery Grafters Ales has shown that hard work pays, by making his Half Moon boozer a lot fuller… with a £100,000 expansion and make-over!
Landlord and brewery boss Phil Troop is celebrating five years as a brewer by quadrupling the capacity of his brew-pub in Willingham-by-Stow near Gainsborough.
As well as expanding his plant, which can currently only brew a maximum of 36 firkins a week, Phil is also building an extension on the brewery and fitting it with a viewing gallery for brewery tourists.
He says that despite being “off the beaten track”, beer lovers have been visiting from across the country – reaching Lincoln by train and then cycling 12 miles out to the village!
Make-over plans also include a new off-licence, plus an office and a large beer garden.
Phil, who has run the pub for 15 years, learned to brew in 2007 to diversify his business and attract more customers.
His beers have since won several CAMRA awards, and he now employs a full-time brewer and a delivery driver.
