Two brewers have created a special ale, in memory of one of their regulars who died suddenly aged just 27.

Caterer Andy Adams suffered a brain haemorrhage at his home in Derby. His body was only discovered when he failed to turn up for work and police forced their way into his house.

Derby CAMRA member Andy was a regular at the city’s Brewery Tap and at the Rowditch Inn pub/microbrewery.

After hearing of his death, Derby Brewing Company head brewer Trevor Harris – whose brewery owns the Tap – got together with Rowditch boss Steve Birkin.

The pair combined their skills to create Quizmaster – a golden ale brewed with Bramley Cross hops, in the style Andy loved best.

The beer was so named because Andy organised a trivia quiz at The Argosy pub, where he worked.

Andy had trained in hospitality and catering at High Peak College, in Buxton, and worked at the Oak and Acorn pub, in Oakwood, before moving to The Argosy.

The beer was launched at the Brewery Tap – where it went down so well that it may be added to the brewery’s permanent beer list.
