Jake Oulsnam got on his bike to research his favourite subject – beer… and his initiative has landed him with what he thinks is probably the best apprenticeship in the country!

titanic_140812For Jake, 23, has been taken on as a trainee brewer at the Titanic Brewery in Stoke, after benefitting from the Government’s drive to encourage firms to take on apprentices.

Jake was so keen to work in the beer trade that he CYCLED around the UK, drinking as many real ales as possible until he built a huge mental database of the nation’s guest beers.

Bosses at Titanic – who employ 22 brewery staff to turn out 2.5m pints a year – were so impressed that they hired him to be their first apprentice.

As he learns the craft, he’s paid by the brewery – but they are getting support from the Government to run his apprenticeship.
