If you’re looking for a drink in the north, this week, West Yorkshire is definitely the place to be – with TWO ale festivals taking place between Thursday and Saturday (March 15-17).Kicking off on Thursday is the huge, three-day Leeds Beer, Cider and Perry Festival – being held as usual, at Pudsey Civic Hall.

Leeds_festival_2012As you would expect, Leeds CAMRA are behind this global drinks fest, featuring more than 150 real ales, together with ciders and perries.

This year’s festival theme is Great Inventions – and with this area at the very heart of the Industrial Revolution there are many local ones to home in on… with related beers for you to try!

Other attractions included the Global Beer bar with a great range of international ales – including a large selection of US craft beers – a Mild Trail, plenty of beer-related stalls and hot and cold food… all of which are backed by performances from local musicians.

Please note that children are not allowed in any part of the festival, and that those lucky enough to look younger than 18 will need entry ID.

The festival is just five minutes’ walk from New Pudsey station, and Leeds buses 9, 16, 16A, 72, 86, 508, X6 will get you there.

Sessions run from 11am-3pm (free entry) and 5-11pm (£4 entry, free to CAMRA members) on Thursday and Friday, and 11am-4pm (£4 entry, free to CAMRA members) and 6-11pm (£3 entry, free to CAMRA members) on Saturday.

Meanwhile, just down the road in Denby Dale, near Huddersfield, the local Lions club is hosting its annual Denby Dale Beer Festival in the Pie Hall, with two sessions running from 7pm-11pm on Friday and noon-11pm on Saturday.>
