Castle Rock’s Harvest Pale ale has brought in a bumper crop for the Nottingham brewery – by helping boost its turnover by more than £1m!
Winning CAMRA’s Supreme Champion Beer of Britain title at the GBBF in August 2010 was the springboard to Harvest Pale’s success, and over the year to last March its sales increased by 122 per cent over the previous year.
Despite the miserable summer and the Beer Escalator tax, that was enough to help Castle Rock return a turnover of £6.4m, compared with £5.3m in 2011.
And even after investing in a new, 18,000 barrels per annum brew plant, Castle Rock produced a net profit of around £125,000 for the financial year.
To add further cheer, the brewery has seen sales of its other beers rise by 47 per cent over the period.
Founded in 1977 as Tynemill Brewery, Castle Rock currently operates 20 pubs across the East Midlands and Yorkshire and produces six regular cask ales, as well as other specialty brews throughout the year.
