London’s Meantime Brewing Company is set to QUADRUPLE its capacity – after opening the largest new brewery in the capital in 76 years.

The Greenwich site – the biggest brewery built in the city since 1936 – will also boast a state-of-the-art visitor centre and shop, allowing drinkers to see how Meantime’s beers are made.

The brewer is pouring some £3m into the project over the next two years – creating as many as 30 new roles – including production personnel, tour guides and caterers – in the wake of the expansion.

The move will mean that Meantime will be able to turn out a staggering 100,000 hectolitres of draught and bottled craft beers – the equivalent of 18 million pints – annually!

Chief executive Nick Miller said: “We will be able to produce 28 different types of beer at our new brewery – all using the latest technology to create the perfect brew, every time”. To help further educate customers, tasting rooms, tutored tastings and brewery tours will be available via the visitor centre.

Mr Miller added: “We want to open our doors to educate them about the full spectrum of beers they can enjoy.

“At the moment, the market is dominated by pretty homogenous big-brand lagers, ales and stouts. We want to take visitors behind the scenes at our new brewery and show them alternatives to the mass-produced products available today”.

The brewery – which currently owns the Old Brewery and the Greenwich Union pubs in Greenwich – also plans to expand its pub estate in the coming months
