Muntons boost Asia trade with pre-Olympic visit

British maltsters Muntons entertained Japanese Ambassador Keiichi Hayash and First Secretary, Koji Maruyama when the men visited Suffolk on a tour of local businesses a a prelude to the London Olympics.

The Stowmarket company is one of the region’s largest exporters and the visitors enjoyed a tour of the new Muntons Centre for Excellence, where home-made beers and fresh baked chocolate brownies – all made using Muntons malt – were available for tasting!

Muntons logistics director Neil Pearmain outlined the important trade links with Japan and Asia, saying: “It is an honour to be able to welcome such important visitors to this region and afford us the opportunity to showcase some of our products that are proving to be very popular in the Far East”.

muntons_logoMuntons sales in the Asia Pacific region have grown substantially over recent years, helped by the opening of regional offices in Singapore and Thailand.

The visitors were accompanied by Suffolk’s Olympic Ambassador, Mid Suffolk District Council leader Tim Passmore.

He said: “Muntons are one of the largest employers in Mid Suffolk and their impressive export record positively contributes to Britain’s balance of payments – important in these challenging economic times”.
