The Rising Sun has brought rising jobs for West Midlands brewer Holdens – which is raising its beer production by HALF to meet astonishing demand from… Japan!

Holdens’ astonishing success in the emerging Asia market has meant it is adding 25,000 extra pints per week to its current output of 50,000.

The increase will mean 10 more jobs and a further expansion to the brewery at George St, Woodsetton, in Dudley.

Additional fermentation tanks and bulk storage will now go into the brewery as a third storey is added to its base.

The family firm has already invested in a recent £300,000 expansion, to give it a new bottle store and more office space.

The expansion should be completed by November and recruitment will take place later.

Holden’s has been in the licensed trade since 1898, and remains firmly a family company – which has now saved a clutch of local pubs by adding them to its 20-strong tied estate.

The most recent pub to be saved was the Fellows in Dudley, which the brewery rescued as a boarded-up shell, before spending nearly three months restoring the grade 2 listed building to its former glory.

Jonothan Holden currently holds the reins of the brewing business – but his sisters Lucie and Abi are both working directors and mum, Therese, is company secretary, as the family retain their local, hands-on approach.
