Bellingham & Stanley has launched a new range of OPTi digital hand held refractometers, designed to replace that costly and slippery glass hydrometer when measuring the specific gravity and ABV of a brew.

opti_050612With temperate-compensated digital readouts, the company says its new digital is quicker, easier – and uses only a fraction of the beer… which adds up to a lot of beer over multiple brews! The refractometers are supplied in single or dual scale formats.

The OPTi-Wort is ideal for use where only the start point specific gravity of a brew is required, whereas the additional RI-Zeiss scale provided on the OPTi-Brew SG can be used in conjunction with a hydrometer and web based calculator to determine the alcohol content of beer, wine and cider to within 0.5 per cent ABV.

While not accurate enough for duty declaration, the company says this is ideal for end-point, in-bottle and intermediate analyses of the fermentation process.
